2006.12.11 Internship Orientation
Orientation: Something about Citigroup , citibank, and CSTS, the company's overview, history, business, and prospect.
The first day of internship was mostly about the basic knowledge of the company and the requirements during the internship. The most important requirement that had been frequently talked about was the security assurance. There were so many rules that should be strictly comformed with. And all of the rules are served for the same objective --- the information security of the company, the running banking system, and our customers data.
During the first day, all the managers or admins that related to the intership gave our new talents orientations. Some orientations were interesting, but others not. We had no choice but to accept and listen carefully.
2006.12.12~12.15 Testing Training
The following four days of the first week were arranged for software testing training. Indeed, this testing training should be scheduled in the last step of the internship. But to economize the cost of training, we new comers joined the last batch of interns to attend their testing training. And another interesting thing that I want to talk about is almost all of the interns that had chosen the mainframe position were told that they would have to transfer to Java group except two of the members who had already learnt the basic knowledge of mainframe. The only reason they got from the managers was there were too few mainframe interns to start the mainframe training. Otherwise, the average cost of each intern would be too high, and the company would also have to pay a high total cost. It is a very strange logic, isn't it? All of the mainframe interns that had come to CSTS, all had the same objective, to learn more knowlege, to performance well, and to stay and work for company. Only if the employee has the skills required can do the job well, and promote the development of the company. This is the essence of business. And actually, they had no choice but to accept it. A good strategy, isn't it?
The four days' testing training was basically according to the process of software engineering and the software development workflow in citigroup. Concerning the training, I want to talk about a very interesting man, our trainer. He is from Philippines. I appreciate his endless enery, active mind, and encouraging training skills very much. From him, I learnt a lot that can not learn from university. His positive and energic attitude to work gave me a very deeply impression.
