Script:

Good morning gentlemen. I am briefing you on tomorrow’s patrol. We will have a
good weather tomorrow and the temperatures are around 36. The first light is at 0650
hours and last light is at 1745 hours.

Ground.

We will be patrolling through the Renmin Square area and then move on to
set up 2 section-strength mobile checkpoints. The main streets are wide enough for
armored vehicles, but the rest area is only approachable by dismounted patrols. The
buildings along the streets are two-storey, but some of the buildings behind those are
old deserted ones and higher. Keep a closer eye on those old buildings when scanning in case of any snipers.

Situation.

The situation is calm but you should be observant all the time. The current
alert status is yellow. 1 Section with their two CRVs was attacked by an ambush two
weeks ago with no injuries. The situation was under control immediately. But the
irregular force may become hostile again anytime. 1 Platoon finished a patrol of the
whole area last Monday. There was nothing special to report except a runaway truck
at a checkpoint.

Mission.

The platoon’s mission is to set up two section-strength mobile checkpoints to observe and report all the activities and also to show a UN presence in this area.

Execution.

This is a platoon patrol. 1 section and 2 section will take part in this patrol.
We will leave the base at 0800 hours, patrolling towards Renmin Square, and move
north and east to set up two checkpoints — here and here and then come back to base. We will patrol in a column formation with 1 Section front and 2 Section at the rear. I will be with 1 Section and the Platoon Sergeant will be with 2 Section. After we leave the base, we will head north up Shanxi Street with a distance of 300 meters between the two sections. We will halt at the crossing between Shanxi Street and Chongqing Street for 5 minutes. Then we will continue north up along Shanxi Street. The second halt will be the crossing between Shanxi Street and Xi’an Street. We will also halt for 5 minutes. 1 Section will then continue north along Shanxi Street and set up a mobile checkpoint at the north end of Shanxi Street, here at grid 515540. 2 Section will move eastward along Xi’an Street and set up a mobile checkpoint at the crossing between Xi’an Street and Qingdao Street at grid 820320. The two sections sho uld reach the checkpoint locations by 1000 hours and will stay there until 1400 hours. Then we will move back towards the base with the same route by 1600 hours.
In case of contact, though unlikely, I want each Section to set up a perimeter defence
at each halt. The halt points are also your reporting points and I want you to radio
your position and situation as soon as you reach the halt points. I want two sections to set up a support by fire postion and wait for the rest of the platoon before fighting
back againt the threat. In case of casualties, secure the casualty and set up an overwatch position. Call the quick reaction force but do not call in CASEVAC unless
the area is secure.

Coordination.

Here is the summary of the timings. We will leave the base at 0800 hours. And then set up two mobile checkpoints at around 1000 hours and man the checkpoints until 1400 hours. We will come back to the base by 1600 hours.
