1: be let go
to be fired from a job

Example:
Is everyone going to be let go?
Employees were let go when the company decided to downsize.


2: vested:
legally belonging to someone and not able to be taken away
example:
The company provided vested benefits after three years of employment.


3: tangible
able to be clearly identified or measured

example:
I'd like to see an example of your work. I need something tangible to assess your experience.

4: impact
a force or an effect that one action or event can have on another.

example:
The country began to feel the impact of the high inflation rate.

5:hang on
used to ask someone to think about something before acting on it or talking about it OR ask someone to wait for a short time

example:
I'am sorry, but could you hang on until we get outside? I can't hear you with all tis noise.
hang on a minute.

6:jump to conclusion
草草下结论。
to form an option without having all the facts

example:
We shouldn't jump to conclusions. we don't know enough about the specifics of the proposal yet.

7: premature

too early or too soon

过早的
example:
His decision was premature. He made it before he had all the facts.

8:go around
to be talked about by many people in an unofficial way

example:
No one has come up with a clear plan, but many idea are going around.
Rumors are going around about who the next CEO will be.

what can I do for you?

Amy:
I heard a rumor that Mike is on England right now trying to sell the company.
I need to know what kind of impact this might have on my career.

Erin:
Hang on a minute, Amy.
I know there are a lot of rumors going around.
I think it's premature to start worrying.

Amy:
Why can't management let us know what's going on?
while I'm glad that some thing may change around here, it bothers me that i'm hearing so manyrumors.

Erin:
I think you're getting too worked up about this.
Management will talk to the staff directly when there's something tangibleto discuss.
Although it's nice to let everyone know what's happening. We can't make any announcements before all the facts are in.

Amy:
So, they are going to sell the company!
Is everyone going to be when Mike gets back from England?

Erin:
Don't jump to conclusions, Amy.
Wait to hear what Mike has to say before you start saying that people might be fired.

Amy:
I guess that's reasonable.
but I don't understand why you can't just tell me now whether or not we're being sold.
