ENGL 1001 A02 202425: 4:Research Essay on Pride and PrejudiceSQL

Java Python ENGL_1001_A02_202425:Assignment 4:Research Essay on Pride and Prejudice

Instructions

As noted in Module 7,this assignment requires you to use secondary sources.(Refer to Module 6 for the distinction between primary and secondary sources.)

Please note your secondary sources may include the essays in the “Criticism”section ofyour Pride and Prejudice:An

Authoritative Text,Backgrounds and Sources (4th ed.,Norton critical edition)textbook. You must include at least three

secondary sources in your essay. These should in general be from books or journals,as opposed to blogs and student essays

The Writing Resources and Reading Resources areas of your course offer resources for this assignment. IRU Library also provides access to secondary sources for this assignment.

Because you will be using quotations and paraphrases from both your primary source(Pride and Prejudice)and

secondary sources (articles and books on Pride and Prejudice),you must include MLA style. parenthetical in-text

citations. After the quotations you use in the essay, provide the page number(s)for print sources and write a full

citation in a Works Cited list at the end of the essay.Remember to include your edition of Pride and Prejudice in your Works Cited list.Quotations count toward the word length,but Works Cited items listed at the end do not.

Whether your research for Assignment 4 is broad or narrowly focused, remember to avoid turning your essay into a patchwork of quotations from different articles and books.Your thesis should be the controlling feature of your   essay.

Your essay should have three parts:an introductory paragraph,a body containing fully developed paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.Following is a general guide for what to include in each section of your essay.

In your introductory paragraph:

·Introduce Pride and Prejudice and its author

·Identify  clearly your  essay topic

·Include a strong thesis statement on the topic. In your analysis in the body of your essay:

·Make effective use of topic sentences to identify the main ideas of your analysis.

·Supportyour comments with evidence (paraphrase and direct quotations)from the novel. ·Explain the significance of each piece of evidence you present as it relates to your thesis.

·Identify the sources of all your quotations with parenthetical in-text citations In your concluding paragraph:

·Summarize the main stages ofyour analysis. ·Restate your thesis in different words.

Writing Help

If you have questions about academic writing,MLA citations,or Works Cited lists, the following resources may help:

● TRU Library' s MLA Citation Style Guide

● Purdue University's Online Writing Lab (OWL)MLA Formatting and Style Guide

·Open Learning students can get writing support online or in person on TRU′s Kamloops campus at the Writing Centre. Peer tutors give feedback on your writing (including organization, sentence structure, grammar,or punctuation);answer questions about MLA style. or citations;and offer strategies for effective revision.

·Also check the resources listed in the Writing Resources and Reading Resources course areas.

Research Essay Topics

Choose just one of the following topics:

1.Whatif Darcy were the narrator of Pride and Prejudice?Consider his opinions about the events of the novel,of

course,buttry as well to think about such literary matters as tone,style,and point of view.It might be interesting to quote him.:)

2.Austen says Lydia has "high animal spirits and a sort of natural self-consequence."She is “untamed,

unabashed, wild, noisy, and fearless."Some of this description sounds rather positive;do you think Austen designed her in 1813 to be seen as admirable, maybe even a heroic figure, only ahead of her time?

3.What do the references to and descriptions of Pemberley tell us about Elizabeth?

4.The Russian/American writer Vladimir Nabokov says all novels are in a sense fairytales. Is that true of Pride and

5.A central scene in Pride and Prejudice is Darcy's failed first proposal
