Mac下动态库的install_name

1.什么是install_name?
每个动态库(dylib)都有一个install_name,可以认为是动态库初次安装时的默认路径,这个install_name保存在dylib文件中。
举例:
比如一个系统动态库:libSystem.B.dylib。利用otool可以查看install_name。

$ cd /usr/lib
$ otool -D libSystem.B.dylib
# 输出为:
# libSystem.B.dylib:
#      /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib

可以看到libSystem.B.dylib的install_name是/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib,所以对于这个dylib来说,install_name就是它所在的目录+文件名。

2.install_name有什么用?
你会说install_name好像对我没什么用啊,我平常用动态库也从来不会注意到什么install_name,照样用的很好。但我想说了解这个东西的原理,对我们理解可执行文件如何调用动态库有很大帮助。

我们知道链接过程会用到动态库,比如

gcc -o main -L. -ladd main.cpp #注意这句命令同时适用于动态库和静态库的链接

上述例子,为了生成main,用到了动态库libadd.so。我们知道动态库是不会编译链接到可执行文件中的,而是在实际执行时动态调用,这样可以让多个程序共享动态库以节省内存,同时压缩可执行文件的大小。那么你要问了,既然可执行文件中并没有动态库的内容,那么为什么上面的命令中要指定-ladd呢,这其实不是多此一举。答案就是:我们其实要在执行文件中保存动态库的install_name。这样以后执行文件名运行时,就是根据这些install_name去寻找动态库。
还是用otool命令就可以查看执行文件依赖于那些动态库。

$ otool -L main
# 输出:
# main:
#       my/libadd.so
#       /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib 

可以看到main依赖于两个动态库:libadd.so和libSystem.B.dylib。而可执行文件实际执行时,就是根据my/libadd.so和/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib 这个两个完整的路径去查找动态库的,找不到会报错。
