- A grocery store chain with 100+ stores across the nation
- Uses traditional low tech cash registers at each store
- Weekly inventory process
- Financial results compiled in spreadsheet by store manager to be sent to HQ on a monthly basis (only aggregated results, no transaction level details, prone to human error)
- Each store places orders to local suppliers separately after the weekly inventory process is completed (at the store manager’s discretion)
- Lots of store items wasted if they stay in inventory for too long (past their shelf life)
- Items often go out of stock
before the weekly re-stocking
Required Objectives

- Modernize their business process
to enable more efficient re-stocking process
- Reduce levels of inventories needed (reduce risk of items going to waste)
- Avoid items going out of stock
- Provide a better mechanism
for store managers to manage levels of inventories in a store
- Enable managers to make smart decisions based on local needs
