On Students’ Sex Proportion in Every Subject

We all enjoyed the balance of proportion of male and female students when we were in primary school and secondly school, but suddenly feel unadjusted when we go to college or university. So there is a heated debate on whether university should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every school.

As for me, I will not give an immediate answer; I just give my own experience. I am so lucky that I am in the class with 12 girls and 31 boys----the number of girls is far more than that in other classes in our faculty. I am so unlucky that I am in the department of computer science---- there are far less female students than that in faculties on art. But the fact is, there are fewer girls than boys who are interested in science that can be admitted into faculties on art, although there are some exceptions.

Girls tend to choose art instead of science, for the sake of their abilities and interests. For instance, many girls like singing, dancing, writing and reading. So faculties on art will be their priorities. Boys, on the opposite side, turn to like science. They like doing experiment, building up project, and social trial, moreover, most boys are theoretical, and they want to uncover the basic principle of the world. So theoretical male students are needed in both art and science faculties.

From the reason above, we can see, school administrations shouldn't impose such regulations on students, as it may hurt students’ right to choose their favorite majors. So as part of my view, universities shouldn’t necessarily accept equal numbers of male and female students. Furthermore, universities ought to set up more elective courses so that students, both male and female, can enjoy the same environment in the university.
