EU trade commissioner Peter Mandelson is scheduled to meet Chinese counterparts this week, to deliberate on the quota violation by Chinese textile exporters.
Stating this, Mandelson informed that EU will handle the situation keeping everyone’s interest in resolutions. The EU officials will work throughout this month, and he will be constantly in touch with the Chinese counterpart this week.
The trade commissioner explained that after the signing the Shanghai agreement on June 10 that set self-restraints of quotas by the year 2007, the Chinese and EU traders made substantial shipments of pullovers and trousers to resist the quotas.
The commission has been continuously informing the importers and retailers on every development at any stage. However, their pure intention to resist the quotas has created immense difficulties, viewed Mandelson.
Hinting at future actions, Mandelson opined that decisions to be taken will include some flexibility on the future adjustments of the restrictions that will be resolved under the purview of the agreement with the Chinese authorities.
