User Needs Analysis

 

This multimedia product is built for foreign children to help them learn English whom aged between 7 and 10. In these foreign children’s country, English is not their first language.

 

User Groups

 

The only user group for this multimedia product is foreign children whom aged between 7 and 10. And the language in their country is not English. All of them have similar background. Such as age, language, education, culture, interests and etc…

Furthermore, parents or teachers probably will use this multimedia product; however, the product will be very easily for them to use, so they are not considered in this UNA report.

 

Users

 

l        Age

Age between 7 and 10

 

l        Language background

English is not first language. But they can understand alphabet. Furthermore, a little very easy English words

 

l        Educational level

Primary school or equivalent

 

l        Culture and social background

Familiar culture and social background with the British

 

l        Disabilities

Children could have physical or sensory disabilities. However, they should:

-          Be able to use hands so that they can use mouse and keyboard

-          Be able to recognize color.

-          Be able to read and listen. (neither blind nor deaf)

If children whom have disabilities mentioned above, they should have assistants help them.

 

l        Computer experience

These children’s computer experience is limited. But they are able to use mouse and keyboard, so that they can click links and type words by these

equipments.

 

l        Experience of other relevant technology

Because they are aged between 7 and 10, and they are primary students, in their school, they should used computer before.

 

l        Task Knowledge and jargon

Children are primary students, so can assume they have used some other multimedia product previous. But the product they used before, maybe it is not in English. It is safe to assume that they can understand any jargon.

 

l        Motivation

Learn English will never be bored. Children will feel funny when they are using the multimedia product.

 

l        Discretion

If there is any problem with the product, PowerPoint or CD player can be replace the product.

 

User Goals

 

Overall goals: Learning Basic English

 

During their studying, they want to:

 

-          Learn some new Basic English words

-          Know how to spell and pronounce new words correctly

-          Know how to use new words correctly

 

The most important, they hope this multimedia product for English learning will not be boring; they can have fun when they are studying.

 

Environment

 

This is an indoor multimedia product, such as lab, library, etc. so Quiet is required.

 

Secure is required, for these children, little vandalism should be considered.

 

Organizational:

 

Teacher or assistant should be available so that they can help children when they feel difficult with operation the product.
