iPhone Game- Zombie Cafe

I will try and have a bi-weekly blog post on new applications/games I will be playing around with on my iPhone. Today’s first post is on Zombie Cafe.
But before I start…I feel guilty at times that I still have my iPhone4 and have not upgraded to a Windows 7 Phone, especially since I work at Microsoft but I cannot help it! It’s not that I feel the iPhone4 is a superior product than the Windows 7 Phone, I can’t say that until one of my friends gives me a good 6 hours to play with his Windows 7 phone and play with it side-by-side to compare. But for me its tough because I am already heavily invested in this with downloading music from the iTunes store and some of the games that are available on the iPhone are highly addicting. So addicting, that I think I might create a post every month on what my new iPhone game addiction is.
Two days ago I stumbled upon Zombie Cafe. I downloaded Plants vs Zombies and finished the game within a week (this was back in November 2010) that I have been in search for a new game for quite a while and Angry Birds and Doodle Jump were just not cutting it for me. I came across Zombie Cafe and was sceptical if I should download it since it is free – I mean how good can a free game be, right? Try addicting good!
Object of the game is to run your Zombie Cafe with, you guessed it – free labor Zombies. Each level you go up, you acquire a new recipe to add to your book. If competition gets tough, you can send your troops of zombies to attack neighboring cafe and steal their money, toxins (which you can use to rejuvenate your zombies or hasten the cooking process) and steal their secret recipes and leftover dishes (if they have any). You make money for every dish that you sell and with that money you can purchase furniture, new equipment, decorate your cafe, expand your cafe, buy more toxins, etc.
Now I’m currently in Level 5 but in the back of my mind, I cannot believe that CAPCOM would invest in creating this game for users to download for free. No way! There has to be a revenue model in place here somewhere that I am missing out on and you know what, I was right! I’m currently in Level 5 and if you are anything like me, you have no patience to get $2-$3 per dish you serve to your customers to expand your restaurant so I clicked on the + button near the toxins and found you can purchase more toxins with…you guessed it, cash. Real cash like the one you and make in the real world.
Aside from this, the concept is great. Free game to download and play but have a revenue generating model in place for users who want to hasten the process in leveling. I wouldn’t be surprised that on average of the total downloads they have had so far from the game (and would have in the future) will average out much higher than $4.99/user (which is the cost to download PvZ).
What I don’t like about the game?
-There is no such thing as a save option and continue the game later. It is annoying to cook your handburger and flies, exit to the main menu, leave the app and let it sit on your night stand and suddenly in the middle of the night you hear the gurgle of a zombie with a message on your iPhone saying your handburger is ready to be eaten – serve quick before it gets burnt. >_<
-Because there is no save option to pause the game and continue later, the game guzzles your battery. I can’t tell you how many times I have had my iPhone4 fully charged at 7:30am but end up with 10% battery at 2:30pm because of the game.
