The line graph describes the percentage of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries - Japan, Sweden and the USA.
As we can see from the graph, the figures in all these countries shows an upward trend. To be more precise, the number in the USA rose from approximate 8% to 15% from 1940 to 1980. Then, it remained stable at a level, just under 15%. But, it is predicted that there will be a dramatic surge after 2020, and the figure will be about 24% until 2040.
In comparison, the figure in Sweden shows a similar growth as which in the USA, the only difference is that there will be a peak at 20% in approximate 2012. From this point onwards, the number in Sweden will decline to around 17%, and then, the percentage of aged people will shoot up to 25%.
The trend in Japan is more dramatic. The number leveled off at around 5% until about 2013, and then, it generally grows to 10% in about 2028. After that, it will increase significantly to around 27% in 2040.
Therefore, we can see from the line graph that the percentage of aged people in all these countries will rise to about 25% in 2040.
