业界牛人

Scott Barber ： 性能测试专家

Scott B arber 是我 非 常敬佩的一位 test expert 。在做 performance testing 的过程中读过很多他的文章，觉得非常的有帮助。如果说只有一位 performa nce testing 的 expert ，那无疑就是他。好吧，那么请允许我借此机会给大家介绍一下他。

 

软件测试领域的专家有很多，但是 Scott 不 太一样。他 10 年来只专注于 Performance Testing 这一个领域，所有的工作，著作和演讲都和这相关，因此他在 slides 中自称“ The Perf Guy ” . 这里有一些他 的个人介绍（ http://www.perftestplus.com/resources/Resume_ScottBarber_PTPCTO.pdf ），看到“ TECHNICAL TESTING COMPETENCIES ” 这一节的时候，你可能会注意到原来把一件事情做到顶尖需要这么多的技能，所以这样说来 10 年也不算太多是吧。 :)

 

一位技术专家在业界有影响力，通常的方式包括写书和文章，在学术会议上做演讲，参加重要的产品开发。 Scott 的影响力大概也是来自这些方面。

 

先说著作，他的两本书， 《 User Experience, not Metrics Series 》 和 《 Beyond Performance Testing Series 》现在读来还是非常的有帮助， PerfTestPlus 的网站有 PDF 的全文（ http://www.perftestplus.com/pubs.htm ）免费下载。 很多人可能是读到第一本书的时候才第一次发现有人用这么系统化的方法来对单个和 group 的用户 behavior 做建模。当然，书的内容还包含了性能测试的其他很多方面。 值得一提的还有他在《 Software Test & Performance 》杂志上的 Peak Performance 专栏的系列文章（上面的 link 也有全文）。这些短小精悍的文章读起来让人深受启发，比如宏观和微观、性能测试需求和常见的数学分析方法等等。

 

在 StarEast 和 West ，还有 STP conference 等学术会议上你也能常看到他的演讲，从上面的地址你也能下到很多的 slides 。

 

除此之外，他和业界的一些 performance test tool vendor 也有不少的合作，比如和 IBM, Compuware ，还有 Microsoft ，以顾问的形式参与到产品的开发。

 

正是因为他在 Performance testing 这个领域的贡献，连 Alberto Savoia 和 Cem Kaner 这样的牛人也给予他很高的评价。
