i wish i could be a bird

 Noripples disturbed the vast expanse of water.Theboat glided peacefully along with the current, three paddles rhythmicallyagainst the current.

 

 Thenthe river narrowed. Clusters of green leaves even touchedthe watersurface. What a lovely sight they made! There stood many thriving banyans, butI could not tell the tree trunks from the canopies.

 

 Byand by our boat got closer to the banyan and I finally had a chance to see itstrue colors. It was a towering tree withcountless branches on which grew innumerable roots, many of which again wentstraight down to the ground and then into the soil.

 

 Some branches droppeddown to the water. Then from afar, they simply looked like a huge tree lyingdown on the river.

 

 Nowthe banyan was sporting new lush branches and foliage,andsmall fruits hung in its greenery and surrounded the tree on the ground below.The tree seemed to be displaying all its vital power. The world of greenleaves, one cluster upon another, left no openings.

 

 A riot of brightgreen color sparkled before our eyes, as if every leaf was quivering with a newlife. What beautiful trees in South China!

 

 I could hear a fewbirds fluttering their wings, but when I searched in the direction of thesound, nothing could be seen but countless tree roots standing in the soil likewooden stakes.

 I wana be a bird flying in the sky freely!
