yes ,as hbase will use Local fs to access so it's needless to start hadoop (which is run in any mode).
do it like this simplely:
start-hbase.sh
check success or not:
a)jps
HMaster //hbase master server
HQuorumPeer //zookeeper instance started by hbase(it's name is started by 'H')
b)hbase shell
then u can operrate the tables with command.
to stop it:
hbase stop
** note **
a) the HRegionServer is started follow from HMater to service HTable opers.so u can see log form command line like this:
localhost: starting zookeeper, logging to ...
starting master, logging to ...
localhost: starting regionserver
, logging to ....
and its order is from: zk -> maste -> regionserver
info from log file:
2011-05-18 12:05:01,426 INFO org.apache.hadoop.hbase.master.HMaster: My address is localhost:60000
2011-05-18 12:05:02,476 INFO org.apache.hadoop.hbase.regionserver.HRegionServer

and the address is localhost.
b)stop order is :
