Objects do not appear to be grouped after using the GROUP command in AutoCAD

Issue:

After using the GROUP command in AutoCAD to group several objects together, when trying to select the group, the individual items within the group are selected instead of the entire group. It does not seem that a group exists for the objects or the GROUP command failed to work.
