Oliympic Games

I’m grateful that I’ve been given this opportunity to stand here to take a serious look at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

July 13th, 2001---the IOC(International Olympic Committee) decided to give the right of holding the 29th Olympic Games to Beijing. This means we Chinese will have more chances to communicate with people from all parts of the world. And the decision will also promote the development of China. It’s no doubt that Beijing will be much more beautiful and modern than now with convenient transportation, better environment and high civilization. Beijing will be the nicest city in the world in 2008.

In 2008, when you are at the grand occasion of the Olympic Games with the theme slogan of “One World, One Dream”, you will also find yourselves experiencing the oriental ancient civilization of Beijing. Beijing was the capital city of the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties of China. The largest palace of the world, the Forbidden City, is located on the central axis of Beijing city. Together with the Summer Palace – a royal park, the Great Wall, Beijing Royal Quadrangle Courtyard etc, Beijing has 7300 cultural relics and historical sites, as well as more than 200 scenic spots. Beijing, the Capital City, is the political, cultural and diplomatic centre of China. It has become a modern international cosmopolitan city with more than 11million people.

After the excitement, everyone began to think about what should he/she do for the 2008 Olympics. I also often ponder this matter. Will I be a useful person in 2008? Then, what can I do for the great Games? I have had the honor of being a volunteer in the 21st World University Games. Maybe I will also have a chance to be a volunteer in the 2008 Olympics. The word “volunteer” originates in the Latin words volo or velle meaning “to wish, to will or to desire”. One common aspect of the “will” to volunteer for an Olympic Games is the pride of us in our city and in our country. Of course we want our city to host the “best Games ever,” and to share our culture, our hospitality and our pride with the world.

修改后

I’m grateful that I’ve been given this opportunity to stand here to make a speech about Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

I believe everyone can still remember the exciting moment as Samaranch- president of International Olympic Committee, announced Beijing as the host of the 29th summer Olympic Games in the World Trade Center in Moscow. Wild cheers and hearty applause spread over every corner of the world’s most populous nation. Every Chinese hugged, cheered to celebrate this great success with great love and deep pride to their country. The whole country became the gladness sea.

In 2008, when we are at the grand occasion of the Olympic Games with the theme slogan of “One World, One Dream”, everyone began to think about what should he/she do for the 2008 Olympics.

Then let me close with a poem written from the heart, by a volunteer whose passion can be felt through these words:

I’ve made it to the Olympics

I always knew I would

It’s taken me so many years

To really get that good

Just think of the excitement

The yells, the claps, the cheers

Making friends from around the world

Memories for years and years

I haven’t done much training

I think I’ll still do well

I’ll give it everything I’ve got

Only time will tell

I cannot win a medal

Though my heart will burst with pride I fear

As I take my place before the race

In my role as an Olympic volunteer!

At the advent of 2008 Olympic games and at a time when the world again look to China for the vigor of its culture ,history and surprising changes in recent year, every citizen obtains the responsibility of displaying the Chinese freshness(the best aspect) in thinking and economy and culture to world. And as a volunteer from Xuanwu hospital which is 2008 appointed Olympic hospital, I think doctors ,nurses and any other workers in hospital should take more obligations than usual citizens. We should take full advantage of our medical knowledge and volunteer for propagation of self-protection and avoidance of any possible unnecessary hurt to tourists and practice to cope with any possible emergency in order to guarantee the successful holding of 2008 Olympic Games.   It’s success is strongly connected with everybody in all field, only in this way can the games be a harmonious, peaceful and ever the most successful in the history.

Thank you again for allowing me to share in the journey to Beijing 2008.
