Well, I think there maybe two important features interrelating each other that can help us.

The first is self diagnosis . Software can trace and annalyze it's own log , intelligently lead user to resolve problem more quickly . It is more and more popular now.You can see such feature in oracle 11g typically.You don't have to remember too many complex commands.

The second is online simulated testing. It means the software provide a easy debug testing tool or method.

For example,your software provide a debug model in which you can easily add enough simulated testing load to check if the total application environment including hardware is robust.The feature is veryhelpful when the software has completed a big upgrading motion.You may checkout some problem before real load is online.

If you develop your own software or buy software ,pay attention to these useful features.
