Introduction
Collocation(搭配) are words that native speakers put together naturally because they grow up always hearing them together.To an ESL student these combinations might not sound natural ,The mean of the two separate words might not match up but together they create a new meaning .
Vocabulary
- supplies:things necessary for daily life or for a particular purpose
- reception:a particular type of welcome for someone,or a particular type of reaction to their ideas,works,etc.
- paperwork:work such as writing letters or reports,which must be done but is not very interesting.
- department:one of the groups of people who work together in a particular par of a large organization
- humorous:funny and enjoyable
desk tidy
a desk tidy is something you can put your pens and other office supplies in .This way they are on your desk but still in a container.
desk job
A desk job is a job where you sit behind a desk most of the day to do your work
front desk
We refer to the front desk when we talk about the palce(usually a desk) where you can for information about a company,hotel etc.form a person working there.
Writing desk
A writing desk is a special desk with space for paper,pens,etc,made especially to do paperwork at.
- eg:we need to get a writing desk for the mail room.
City desk
The word city desk refers to a certain department of a newpaper but has different meaning in American English and British English.American use city desk to refer to the department of local news for the news paper.while it refer to financial news department for the British.
- eg:I work for a newpaper at the city desk.
Desk jockey
This is a term we usually use in a humorous way,to be funny,Someone who has a desk job is a desk jockey.
- eg:Hey buddy!Congratulations on the promotion(晋升)!Now that you are a desk jockey you must be careful not to get fat.
