TAG Heuer has introduced a lot of innovative timepieces over the last few years. The brand's watchmakers have maintained search for improving precision of its timekeeping instruments for sportsmen. The all-demanding consumer has made its choice clear - one in nine of all timepieces acquired worldwide bears the name of TAG Heuer. In the USA TAG Heuer is the number two brand following the all-time leader - Rolex.
The prototype of the brand's Aquaracer Chrono Calibre S Regatta was initially introduced a few years ago at a specially organized event in St Tropez. The brand touched imagination of all the present journalists with the revolutionary timepiece meant to transform timing. In 2007 there appeared the final version of the Aquaracer - and it was really worth waiting for.
Look through major characteristics of the Calibre S:
- 300 metres water-resistance
- 1/10th of a second precision
- a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal
- an aluminum bezel featuring countdown scale for a regatta race
- luminescent hands and markers
- applied indexes and semi-circular-shaped counters
- steel bracelet with a double safety clasp
In the heart of the watch's stainless steel case there beats TAG Heuer Calibre S movement. The mechanism allowed measuring and displaying all watch and chronograph functions applying the same hands. This unique patented construction provides simple means to allow measuring elapsed chronograph and countdown time for regattas.
The central hour hand displays hours in both the Time mode and Chronograph mode; the central minute hand features minutes in the Time mode, Chronograph mode and Regatta countdown; the central seconds hand indicates seconds also in the Time mode, Chronograph mode and Regatta countdown.
There is the semi-circular counter in the right part of the dial necessary for displaying tenths of a second when the Chronograph mode is on. It is necessary to press the crown once to switch from Time mode to Chronograph mode or twice to switch to Regatta countdown mode. To find out which of three modes is currently switched on, it is enough to drop a look at the semi-circular counter placed in the left part of the dial.
When the Chronograph mode is on, the timepiece's owner starts, stops and resets the chronograph to zero with help of the pushbuttons - the same way as with a usual chronograph. As for the elapsed time, the hour hand shows the elapsed hours, the minute hand shows the elapsed minutes and the seconds' hand shows the elapsed seconds. The counter on the right displays tenths of a second. When the watch is returned to Time mode, the hands are back to the correct time.
The highly complicated Calibre S movement is composed of 230 components and 5 bi-directional motors offering supreme performance. The central hands synchronization and their reset to zero when chronograph mode is on require great precision. As the central hour, minute, second hands are responsible for more than one task, the workload on the major motors becomes two times bigger.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Chrono Calibre S Regatta has been subject to the most rigid quality tests - the watch passed through 12,000 hours of testing without losing any single second.
