English Hour–Topic: What's your favorite city ?(9/8/2010)

Today’s topic is "What's your favorite city".

Smiling, Darcy, Johnny, Benjamin, Phoenix, Jojo, Asa and I joined the topic.

The brief summary as below:

 

    * To Smiling and Darcy, their favorite city is their hometown , where there can bring them good memories, and there are many friends there, Smiling thought the people in his hometown are very good, and he came back to his hometown once a year; Darcy likes his hometown-Yangzhou also because his parent live in there, and some places of interest such as Thin XiHu and Ge park, and Yangzhou is also famous as source of cloud of beauty:)

 

         * To Asa, it is Liverpool , there are many shops and sports center, and he has many friends live there, there are many libraries and museums, he likes reading book, playing football, and many others, He likes the his hometown but not the people, and he wishes to go London for working. but now he likes Suzhou very much, the people, the food except in our building, the facilities. Wish you have a good time in Suzhou and in Cisco-WebEX.

 

         * To Johnny, he talked a lot of Nanjing, but his favorite city is Shanghai , he spent about 20mins about Nanjing but 5mins about Shanghai, aha:), He listed 3 points: first is the good service except the traffic jam, but it is indeed convinent where you can you, by train or by plane from Shanghai to other places, second is the products(Same brand) is cheaper than in SZ, and the third is that there are more opportunities than many other cities especially in the field of techonogy, and Nanjing brought him a lot of memories except job(Nanjing refuse him:)). He always went back to Nanjing to play with friends, playing mahjong and free talk( 吹牛 ).

 

    * Ben, Phoenix, Jojo and I choose Nanjing as our favorite city. Simply the two points we all think are the public facilities and the food. Nanjing is a beatiful city in China, which is provincial capital of Jiangsu, and also famous as it is as the capital city for six dynasties, there are many places of interest, such as Terrace of Raining flower( 雨花台 ) ， Zhongshan Mausoleum( 中山陵 ), Confucius Temple( 夫子庙 ) etc. And we can find delicous food(snack) everywhere, the famous food including soup with duck flood and vermicelli( 鸭血粉丝汤 ), fried dumpling stuffed with beef( 牛肉锅贴 ),boiled salted duck( 盐水鸭 )and so many many food, exspecially in Confucius temple, and Hunan Road and New street entrance; And nanjing is convenient to go back home by train for Ben, and he likes the Nanjing dialect, it is easier to understand than Suzhou dialect; On Phoenix's opinion, Nanjing is near Yangzi River, and there are fresh vegetable and cheaper foods what can be got easily, Nanjing also brought her many nice memories, and he wanted to Dali( 云南大理 ) in Yunnan Province when she is old, where she will enjoy watching the sunshine. Jojo thought Nanjing is a container where all people can get in, and you can find what you want, then he has a apartment in Nanjing, where there is a park around his apartment, there are many birds, boat and trees…, another very important thing is he met Phoenix in Nanjing, which is a romantic in their memory.
