Don’t try to “learn Linux”
Pick a project and then do that project, learning Linux is a side effect.
Build a web server/web site
Build an asterisk phone system
Build a home backup solution
Never get “comfortable” with one way of doing things
Programmers learn new languages to stay sharp, sysadmins should do the same
Never used BSD? Try it.
Never used LVM? Try it.
Never setup software RAID? Try it.
Don’t evangelize X over Y.
Figure out the strengths/differences of Y and why it’s out there.
Vim person? Try Emacs.
Emacs person? Try vim.
bash person? Try zsh.
Apache person? Try nginx.
