my first Ah-counter experience

This Monday morning, when I was writing in front of the computer,A chat window popped out.it was Lynn,a smart girl who is now the VPE of the west lake bilingual toastmasters club, and also my mentor of the icebreak speech.

“what about choose one role between Grammarian\Timer and Ah-Counter,you can select any role you want to be?”

I have the privilege to choose?have enough time to prepare?it seems so well.

My mind returned to last Wednesday evening, when I got into the classroom ten minutes before the meeting started,Lynn made me to be the timer without any consultation.you can image how nervous I was because at that time I have no idea how to deal with it,thanks to Tony,I finally got through the meeting.

I weight the pros and cons, and finally decided to be the An-counter which I think was comparative easy.

I paid more attention to my role. I prepared my speech for the introduction to Ah-counter duties in advance. I wanted to make everything better than I was a timer.

When I arrived in the classroom, I was given a Ah-counter's worksheet, then i filled in some items to save time during meeting.

But something is beyond my expection, just see who gve the  prepared speech:Jennifer(had been presided the hangzhou division’s competition ,C7 speech),Ying(had been stayed in American sometime ,C7 speech),Simba(our division governor,A2 speech),their English is so good and Speaking speed is so fast that I can’t even catch up with them(in fact I really lost sometime),not to mention finding mistake for them,so in my report,I said: “the three prepared speakers do the best, who made zero ah”(I envn forgot to mention three speakers’s name).in fact, their fluent English really touched me,I know there is long way to go before I get their high.

Today’s Table Topic discussion is hold by humorous vergil, the theme is Violence Aesthetics, exciting but difficult for me to express my feeling.Durning the discussion,I really afraid to be asked to speak,I can do nothing just do my best to lower my head to avoid been noticed, fortunately, there were five guests who was college teachers and Diana who had won our club’s English competition, all the six speakers made impromptu speech smoothly.I would say from the deep of my heart that their impromptu speeches were really fantastic, but in order to show that I was the responsible An-counter not a puppet, I listened carefully to find some “ahs” in their fluent speeches ,just when thinking, they sounded “en” for pause, when started to continue, they used “and” as conjunction.

I also find my shortcoming that when I delivered my report,I  lack of eye contact with who I mentioned just concentrate on my own speech, but it is happy that the General Evaluator Wendy praised me,and also one guest who win the table topic section, and I get a big hand from the audience ,it really flattered me.

At last, I would say:I have learned more from my An-counter experience,I really enjoy the the toastmaster meeting.

Leave some words about my first Ah-counter experience---King(2010.10.20)

Below is what I said on the stage:

First,I would say:all the speeches do a good job,but I do a bad one, because the main function of the role Ah-counter is to find as many mistakes as possible, but obviously,I am fail to do so.this is not because I have not listening carefully, but because all the speechers’s english is so well that I can’t find as many mistakes as I expected.

Now, this is my Ah-counter report:

In all the fluent English speakers, the three prepared speakers do the best, who made zero ah,good job.

In the table topic section, because of the impromptu speech, there is little time for the speakers to think about what to say, how to say,and how to organize the sturcture,so there are some unneccessary pause and unuseful conjunction “and”.------

But all in all, every one do very well, and I learned a lot from you thank you.

Madam general evaluator!
