摘要:
Current models of orbital debris make assumptions of material type, as well as density of the material to form an assessment of threat, growth in the amount of debris, and shielding requirements. Using spectroscopy, one can obtain more accurate information of the material type of orbital debris. Three wavelength regions separate the material types of debris into three categories: aluminum, other metals, and organics. Knowledge of these materials will aid in the determination of the density of the piece, along with a more accurate size and mass for the piece. Spectral reflectances of common spacecraft materials will be discussed. Methods of taking observations will be explored. Introduction Debris models require observable properties of the orbital objects in order to form an accurate assessment of threat, shielding requirements, and the future amounts of debris. Quantities such as optical brightness, spectral data, radar signatures, and atmospheric drag inferred from orbital decay ar...
