ABC: why softlayer ram is very pxpensive

Ryan L: Our Ram upgrade prices include more than just the physical hardware. For example, several underlying assumptions are made that when you add ram; including 1) you will use more bandwidth, 2) you will use more power, 3) you will require additional HVAC, 4) you will require increased network resources, and 5) hard drive use will increase (power, heat).

Ryan L: Having said that, I can discount this to $15/GB/month for you.

ABC: i have 4gb now ,i want to upgrade to 16gb in total

Ryan L: OK, at $15/GB/month this will be a $180/month increase.

ABC: i does't why very expensive

ABC: other provider 30 - 50usd 16gb

Ryan L: We tend to compete more on functionality and quality rather than price. When we buy parts, we buy in huge lots and we require the same (or similar) parts on a continuous basis for long periods (two to three years). Close out pricing, rebate pricing, overstock pricing and sales are tempting for us, but would create a situation where parts would not be consistent over time. When we take our cost, put a markup on it, make a profit, and then include a warranty the pricing is not going to be anywhere near budget providers.

Ryan L: We are not the cheapest host in the industry - nor do we want to be. We pride ourselves in providing the best service, most innovative ideas with the most knowledgeable staff in the industry today.
