What I think of IoT
I think Internet of Things(IoT) is a broad topic. It's not new things. But recently it begin to give our life much innovation. Not only in a specified vertical field, but horizontally across different industries.
Its ubiquitous network connect different devices from different platforms, different hardware vendors or different working environment. General speaking, IoT is composed of three parts. One is a cloud backend, the second is devices, and the third is leaving us much room for imagination. You can think it as a platform or middleware, like smarthings or Apple HomeKit, HealthKit are doing. Besides, you can implement it to a physical hub, a gateway or a router, as many electronics makers are doing. There are three important things in IoT,inter-connectivity, inter-operability and security. OIC, Allseen and Thread are dedicated to resolving the connectivity problem. W3C and sematic Ontology are for inter-operability. But in my opinion, security for IoT is also important. It can not depend on the traditional security strategies,. Neither constrained capability in device nodes nor the data converged in the cloud side, we can reuse the original principal solution. End to end security is needed. Authentication, Access Control Management, Authorization, TLS for transportant layer, encryption for the application message, all we should consider. By the way, I like Pubnub platform for message transformation. It save me time from the deployment of RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ service and it provides a hierachical security solution.
Last, I think using web to access and control devices or using voice recognition like Amazon Echo are the right roadmap for IoT. Look forward to seeing more work on these two directions.
Furthermore, in my blog, I had promoted a concept of SDT(software-defined Things) . Maybe you can also call it VoT(virtual of Things). I think the flexibility of defining devices to different capability in different scenarios is a perspective. Congratulations on B-SCADA 's working on it.
There are too topic about IoT, Now I only think about these. That's all
