In Chinese culture, red is usually a symbol of good luck, longevity and happiness, and can be seen
everywhere during the Spring Festival and other festive occasions. When people give cash as gifts
to family members or close friends, they usually put it in a red envelope. Another reason red is
popular in China is that people associate it with the Chinese revolution and the Communist Party.
However, red does not always represent good luck and happiness. Because the names of the dead
were often written in red, writing Chinese names in red ink was considered an offense.
