APPLIES TO:Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2.0 [Release 11.2]Linux x86-64 SYMPTOMSThis issue is specific to Grid Infrastructure installation on Linux 6 (or OL 6), the problem only happens for 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2 installation. It could happen to both Grid Infrastructure or Oracle Restart (standalone Grid Infrastructure). The message is taken from installing 11.2.0.1 Oracle restart on Linux 6, it fails at root.sh:

CAUSEThis is caused by Linux 6 change: In OL6 upstart is used in place of /sbin/init daemon to handle the tasks/services at boot/shutdown and while system is running, which is event based. /etc/initttab in OL 6 is only used for default runlevel and for other daemons /etc/init/<task>.conf is used. This is reported in unpublished Bug 11071429: PORT 11GR2 CRS TO OL6
SOLUTIONPlease install 11.2.0.3 Grid Infrastructure instead of 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2 for new installation as 11.2.0.1 and 11.2.0.2 are not certified on OL6/RHEL6 |
