Once you've registered, it's easy to upload your application to Google Play. From the home screen of the Google Play Developer Console, select Add new application. You'll be asked to fill in the following information for your app:

Upload Assets

  • APK file: maximum supported size for a single APK is 50MB. You can useexpansion files to upload additional assets such as graphics. If you can't support all desired devices with one APK, you can upload multiple APKs in the same app listing to each target a different device configuration.
    • Please note that package names for app files are unique and permanent, so please choose wisely. Package names cannot be deleted or re-used in the future. Keep in mind that if you've lost your keystore, you'll have to publish the app with a new package name and a new key. You should also update the description of the original app and unpublish it.
  • Draft application APK file: When you upload an APK file, it can be saved as a draft while you edit the other aspects of the list. You will see a Save draft button on the dialog box after you upload the APK. If you would like to upload a new APK but don't want to publish it to Google Play immediately, you can save a new APK as a draft from either Simple or Advanced mode.
  • Screenshots: Two screenshots are required, and an additional six are optional. Read our article about graphics for more details on screenshots and icons.

Listing Details

  • Language: This is to denote the language of your application. Default language is US English. More languages will become available as Android-powered devices become available in those languages. Additionally, you can include translations of the app title and description to promote your app to users who speak other languages. Translations will be shown on Google Play.
  • Title: The name of your application as you would like it to appear in Google Play. You may add one per language.
  • Description: The visible description of your application in Google Play. Use the translate feature to translate your description into other languages. There is a 4000 character limit for this field.
  • Recent changes: The recent changes feature provides an opportunity for you to add notes about the changes specific to the newest version of your application. Use the recent changes field to inform your users about the changes in your application.Learn more about recent changes.
  • Promo text: Text that accompanies your promotional graphic in featured spots in Google Play
  • Application Type: Google Play is divided into 2 major application types:Applications and Games. Please choose one.
  • Category: You must select a category for your application. Read more about categories.

Note: Repetitive and/or irrelevant use of keywords in the app title, description or promotional description can creates a unpleasant user experience and can result in an app suspension. Please refer to full guidelines in the  App Policy Help.

Publishing Options

  • Locations: These are the locations in which you may distribute your applications.
    • Not all locations listed currently have users with Android-powered devices.
    • You may select locations one-by-one or choose the All current and future locations option. This option means that, as we add more distribution locations, these locations will be enabled for your app. Before you check this option, please brush up on Export Compliance.
    • Note: At this time, you may only sell applications to users in these locations.

Contact information

  • You must pick one support channel for your app: Website, Email, or Phone.
  • This information is viewable to users from Google Play.
  • You may choose to offer multiple channels for support.

Uploading System Applications

  • Most developers will not need to upload system applications and may ignore this section. System applications may come pre-installed on certain devices and may or may not already be published in the Play store.
  • If you need to upload a system application and encounter an error message when doing so, please contact us. Please be sure to select the Publishing issues and distribution option.
The user’s system apps (including any pre-loaded apps) are shown in the  My Apps section of the user's device in the Google Play store--as soon as an application with the same package name is uploaded to the Google Play Developer Console, even if the application is unpublished.

Translations of your store listing

Once you’ve saved a change to your app, automated translations of your store listing will become available -- but remember that a human translation is always best. For languages where translation was not provided by the developer, the user can choose to view an automatic translation of listing details in the Google Play web store. There will be a note above the translation explaining that the translation has been done automatically, and an option to return to the default language. At this time automated translations are not supported for Armenian, Raeto-romance, Tagalog and Zulu.

You can add localized screenshots, feature graphics, hi-res icons, promo graphics and YouTube video URLs if you would like to market your application in different languages. Please create a single store listing for all languages. Once you add graphics and videos in a certain language, users whose language preferences match it would see the localized version of assets both in Google Play web store and on the device.
