 Monads were the hottest thing in like 2008-2009, and then every year there is a new sort of CS concept that is the thing that year, I think last year was probably Iteratees, the year before was probably Applicatives, and the year before was Monads, so I see a trend here.

So what is 2012, it’s Zippers, the Kleene-Star (whatever that is), Arrows? 

I think it’s starting to become Lenses actually, I think Lenses are highly ranked to be CS word of the year.
