Dialogue1:
A: I hate driving to work this way.
B: Do you mean on South Street?
A: Yeah. It’s the shortest route. But the road is in such bad
condition.
B: I have notieced a lot of bumps in the road.
A: How could you not notice?
B: I think it’s easy for me to ignore since I’m the
passenger.
A: Well. I’m sick of
B: Yes. But if they did road work. They would cause traffic
delays.
A: Sure. But it would only be for a short time.
B: You’d still complain.
A: No. I wouldn’t. this is worse because it damages my car.
B: That is true. Maybe we should go a different way to work.
A: I’m starting to agree.
B: Well. Let’s detour here to King Street.
A: It might make us late. But I’ll give it a try.
Dialogue2:
A: I’m tired of studying. I’m going home
B: What are you going to do now?
A: I’m going to watch the boxing match on TV tonight.
B: That’s horrible.
A: Why do you say that? What are you talking about?
B: I’m talking about boxing. It should be banned.
A: What? Why?
B: It’s not real sport, It’s just fighting to entertain people. It’
s so uncivilized.
A: I disagree. It teaches people about courage and
determination.
B: That’s nonsense. You watch just to see two men beat each other
up.
A: No one forced them to fight each other.
B: Really? Then how come it’s mostly poor people who box? They
don’t have any other choice.
A: Maybe you’re
B: You should be ashamed.
A: I’m. see you later.
Dialogue3:
A: I’m not happy with our new boss.
B: Why not?
A: He doesn’t do anything. He just tells everyone else what to
do.
B: He’s the boss. Isn’t his job to tell otoher people what to
do?
A: No. His job is to direct other people. Not have them do his work
for him.
B: What do you mean?
A: I mean that he even has other people go to meetings for him.
While he goes home early.
B: He doesn’t even go to his own meeting?
A: No. he just comes in for the morning. After giving out a list of
what he wants done. He goes home by lunchtime.
B: That’s terrible. How long has he been
A: about a month. But not for much longer.
B: Why do you say that?
A: I’m going to see what I can do to get him replaced by the
company.
B: Good luck. I hope you’re successful.
Dialogue4:
A: I don’t think schools are as good as they used to be.
B: Why do you say that?
A: Have you read the newspapers lately?
B: I haven’t read anything about the schools.
A: Math test scores are lower than ever.
B: Do you think that’s the fault of the schools?
A: I can’t imagine any other reason.
B: That’s true. I wonder why schools are getting worse.
Though.
A:
B: Well. They certainly don’t pay them enough.
A: I agree. Besides. I don’t think they get enough respect.
B: When my son gets old enough. I may send him to a private
school.
A: I agree. I think I’ll do the same.
Dialogue5:
A: I think the mayor is doing a good job this year.
B: That’s change from your old opinion.
A: I know. But he’s surprised me with how well he is doing.
B: What makes you say that?
A: He’s doing a really good job with city services for
example
B: Like what?
例如说呢?
A: He’s cut back on unneeded spending. While hiring more police
officers.
B: He hasn’t done such a good job. With the roads. Though.
A: I’ll admit that the roads still need work. But no one is
perfect.
B: You can say that because you take the bus to get to work. I have
to drive.
A: That’s true. But maybe you should take the bus as well.
B: What else do you think he’s doing better?
A: He’s gotten rid of
B: I have to agree with that. You would not have said such good
things about the mayor before.
A: I know. But my opinion’s changed. I hope he keeps doing such a
good job.
B: If he does. Then maybe I’ll share your opinion of the
mayor.
