You can see the readers of SICP have only two groups : praisers and critics. I think it's reasonable because in my opinion this book seems not to be at an clear position between scientifical aspect and engineering aspect.
This book introduces a lot programming rules & principles that are quite valuable to industrial world - in a theoretical perspective though - this is the weirdest point of this book. I think if the reader is being with the ability of distinguishing theory and practical rules, he would feel that this book is the best - Yes, the rules & principles are the very essence, and most deep thoughts represent the very core of computer language field, what's more, the author adds the interpreter chapters which are necessary for readers to understand CS languages deeper. It is the smart point.
If there were any drawbacks of this book, it is that this book messes theory and practice up.
