### CentOS 64-bit Version 7 Installation and Configuration Guide For a comprehensive understanding of installing and configuring CentOS 64-bit version 7, several key points must be addressed. #### Preparing for Installation Before starting the installation process, ensure that all necessary hardware requirements are met. This includes having sufficient disk space, RAM, and CPU power suitable for running a server operating system[^1]. #### Downloading the ISO Image Obtain the official CentOS 7 ISO image from the trusted mirror sites provided by CentOS Project. Verify the integrity of the downloaded file using checksums available on the website to prevent potential issues during installation. #### Creating Bootable Media Use tools like `Rufus` or `UNetbootin` to create bootable USB drives with the ISO image prepared earlier. Ensure compatibility between the tool used and your computer's architecture (64-bit). #### Installing CentOS 7 Boot from the created media and follow the graphical installer instructions carefully. Choose appropriate options such as language settings, time zone selection, network configuration, etc., according to specific needs. During this phase, pay attention to partition setup; LVM is recommended over traditional partitions due to its flexibility in managing storage volumes. #### Post-installation Setup After completing the initial installation steps successfully, proceed with post-installation configurations: - **Update System Packages:** Run commands like `yum update -y` immediately after logging into the newly installed system to apply any security patches or bug fixes released since the last build date. - **Install Development Tools:** For developers who plan to compile software packages locally, install development tools via command line: `yum groupinstall "Development Tools"`. - **Configure Firewall Rules:** Adjust firewall rules based on application scenarios through firewalld service management (`systemctl start/stop/restart/enabledisable firewalld.service`) depending upon whether services need external access permissions granted explicitly within iptables policies defined under `/etc/sysconfig/iptables`. - **Set Up Oracle User Account Creation**: Execute shell scripts similar to creating an oracle user account which involves adding groups named 'oinstall' & 'dba', followed by specifying home directory paths while ensuring proper permission assignments[^2]: ```bash [root@datanode1 rpms]# groupadd oinstall [root@datanode1 rpms]# groupadd dba [root@datanode1 rpms]# useradd -g oinstall -G dba oracle ``` --related questions-- 1. What are some common troubleshooting tips when encountering problems during CentOS 7 installations? 2. How can one optimize performance tuning parameters specifically tailored towards database applications hosted on CentOS servers? 3. Are there alternative methods besides UNetbootin or Rufus for preparing live USB sticks containing Linux distributions including CentOS? 4. In what ways does utilizing Logical Volume Management(LVM) benefit administrators compared to standard fixed-size hard drive divisions?
