Today, while backup the R3 database, veritas reported the error 96, it's means unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available. But I put several tapes into the R3 volume pool recently, it's impossible to run out of it.

Run the jnbSA process to open the veritas netbackup console, I found many frozen tapes in the R3 volume pool. May be the tape was been frozen because last failed backup.

Connect to the R3 host using Xmanager, execute the following command to unfreeze all frozen tapes. After this, start the manual backup, everything was well!!

# bpmedia -unfreeze -m U572L2

This is another cause of NBU status 96.
