Main Essay Assessment

The course will be formally assessed through ONE essay (4000 words, excluding the bibliography, with no tables or figures), to be submitted by 2pm on Friday 6th December 2024 via Moodle.

The essay questions are given below. Essays must include a word count for text (excluding bibliography). Those which are more than 10% (i.e. 400 words) above or below the word limit may be penalised.

ESSAY QUESTIONS:

1)    Drawing from course readings, examine how different social determinants of health, such as education, employment, and environmental conditions, interact and cluster together to influence population health. Include a minimum of 3 course readings to incorp 5001 Global HealthR orate.

2)    Identify an important global health issue. Analyse how that issue is shaped by social determinants of health at the community, local (region/local authority) and national levels using examples from the course readings. Include a minimum of 3 course readings to incorporate.

3) Health inequalities are difficult to reduce. Critically assess the possible reasons why using examples from the course readings. Include a minimum of 3 course readings to incorporate.

Please answer one of the three questions above. You should not alter these or use an essay question or title you have selected for yourself. Be sure to provide examples from COURSE READINGS (hint: use required and optional reading sources). An Essay Guidance Sheet and Grading Rubric will be provided
