Some questions on MapGuide Enterprise 2007

1- When AMGE 2007 SP1 is connected to SQL Server, with let's say 10 simultaneous users, how many connections to SQL Server are opened ? One of my partners tells me it can have an impact on the kind of SQL Server licence to be sold.

 

[RB] Yes pooling can definitely affect RDBMS licensing. In serverconfig.ini you will find a setting called “DataConnectionPoolSize”. The default value is 20. Customers can tweak that value based on their licensing. Note that for the SP this is a global setting that affects all providers, we plan to make that per provider in MGE 2008. 

 

2- We still need some documentation on dimensionning AMGE servers. Is there anything like this coming ?

 

Yes you do and it is still in the plans but I don’t have a timeframe. For now, feel free to send all size requests to me and I will help you out. I know it would be better to have a White Paper we can give to customers, but hopefully this will help in the interim.

 

3- Are the source code of the samples on the OSGeo site downloadable somewhere (for partners) ?

 

[RB] They will be soon. PM is planning to launch a MapGuide Technical Resource Center site sometime around the middle of this month.

 

4- I think we don't provide any sample using the Studio API. Is there some samples downloable somewhere ?

 

[RB] We’ll see if we can get one up on the site mentioned in 3. Arnab do you have any?

 

5- This one is not technical : should we, as Autodesk employees, post evolution wishes on the OsGeo bugtracker ?

 

[RB] You can it’s completely public. You can also send them to myself, Andrew, and preferably the new PM when he starts.
