we would like to get ideas on a problem that has made our BI 4.0 installation completely unusable.
Original Installation: BI 4.0 Platform SP2 on Windows Server OS.
BI 4.0 Servers were running fine, till we started an attempt to install BOBJ Explorer 4.0 FP 3 on the same server.
The installation completely successfully,
I checked the Central Configuration Manager. TomCat Server and SIA1 were running.
The Ports and System DB connections were appearing to be all same as before.
But the CMS was not running. In fact the Administrator password was also not accepted any more.

Same thing happened to us. It wasn't mentioned in the Explorer FP3 system requirements that the BI 4.0 server has to be on the same patch level and prerequisites check didn't complain anything either (nice job SAP!).
Anyway, we were able to recover by replacing all the DLL files in SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64 directory with the ones from our SP2 production server. After that CMS started and we were able to uninstall Explorer FP3. I hope this helps!
You cannot install Explorer FP3 on BI4.0 SP02. If you want to use Explorer FP3, you need to have BI4.0 FP3.
Your best bet right now is to uninstall everything, re-image the box and install SAP BI4.0 SP04 full install (available now in SMP) and then install Explorer SP04.
