Open source virtualization project-Xen

 

Virtualization is not the “must have” property for cloud computing infrastructure, but it always is. And actually, virtualization accelerate the appearance of cloud computing.

 

For open source, for economic, xen is a excellent project to build a cloud computing infrastructure, but besides guys who build the infrastructure, many user or engineer don’t familiar with this project, although it is really very important for virtualization and cloud computing.

 

At Apri 16, Xen.org published xen 3.4 rc2,.At Apri 21, Xen.org send a Xen 4.0 Feature Requests, Xen 3.4 in test for final release shortly, it is time to submit your feature requests for the next release.

 

So xen will release 4.0 this year I think, and how do you know about xen3.3?May be you have used some important features on xen3.3:memory overcommit, VT-d device pass-through support,etc.

 

But you will see a more great version-xen3.4, you can expect features: accelerated guest networking, better migration control, VM checkpoint for hardware fault tolerance, native OVF support, GPU virtualization with Gallium, USB 2.0 suport, LVM snapshot of guest memory and guest disk.

Do you know that xen come from XenoServer at Cambridge, XenoServer derives from the Greek word “”o&” (xenos), which means foreign or unknown, much like the tasks that XenoServers accept and safely execute.
