Microsoft Windows Server 2003 is the evolutionary upgrade from Windows 2000 Server. Microsoft has made significant performance improvements to Windows Server 2003 in both the system kernel and many subsystems, and in almost every implementation it will outperform Windows 2000, often considerably.

Both Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server are designed to be largely self-tuning operating systems. A standard, plain installation of either operating system yields reasonably good performance results for most purposes. In some instances, specific server settings and parameters can be tuned to optimize the performance of the Windows server operating system even further.
