Why do we say English is important for an DBA.

I admit my opinon is short sight.

As a DBA I do not see how the math, physics or even the data structure affects the DBA level yet.

Some one master the DBA knowledge well without these basic knowledge.

Except they are good at English.

Many students majoring the art can learn oracle well is good example.

but at present I did not see the people who do not know english learn it well.

there must have been such person but I say I did not find.

So It is safe to say that the english is important for an DBA.

The first reason is almost all oracle Docs written in English.

The Docs are too many to be tranlated.

At least you are able to read these docs if you want to play with oracle.

The second reason is you need to talk with Oracle Support.

Many issues are related to the Oracle bugs which you can not resolved thoroughly without the support help.

The English is official language for the Oracle support.

So you need to talk with them unless you do not want to handle all the issue.

The third reason you need English is you need to explain or get the requirement when you get chance to serve to the foreign customers. Or your foreign boss.
