dear diary - 25 may 2009

i woke up this morning at the new place i just rented. it's a common room with few furnitures. there's a single bed, a computer desk, an electric fan, two chairs and a wardrobe. really simple! next to my room, it's a carpark in layers. so, it's a little noisy. but that's not a big problem for me. i think i can stand for it, at least for the time being.

this afternoon, i went to the finance office to visit Daphne Goh to collect my sallary cheque. she told me that my bank account number recorded is incorrect. i need to send her an email with the correct information, thus she can update it manually for me. i got a little confused about this. i recalled that i have ever inputed my OCBC bank account information to the online system and returned a false message as the result. and when i realized that i have inputed the false information, i corrected it later and got a normal done message. Daphne Goh then told me the online system only allows users to input bank account information ONCE. that's why!

and on my way back to office, i put the cheque into my OCBC bank account. the bank clerk told me that the money will be transfered to my account by two tomorrow afternoon. this is my first paycheck from NTU. feel good!

then i went to the library to borrow some books to read. i found three heavy books that may help me in my field. when i brought them to the computer aided check-out counter. the computer system told me that my user account is invalid. oops! i got confused! the administration office issued a staff card to me. so i took it for granted that i can loan books from the library. but the fact is inverse. i got back to my office and told it to my supervisor. then i was told that i need to register at the library before borrowing any books. ah, that counts for it! i registered later and the computer recognized me immediately.

from tomorrow on, i will move the the CHFE lab to continue my work. and i will meet some buddies there. most of them are ph.d students. wish we can have a good time there!
