JDK installation

a. use firefox and navigate to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html and click Downlad JDK from Java SE 6 Update 24, select Windows as platform, agree license agreement, click Next, then click jdk-6u24-windows-i586.exe to download JDK

b. follow wizard to install JDK with default settings

c. add or append (if already exists) following system variables

ClassPath: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\lib\dt.jar;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\lib\tools.jar

JAVA_HOME: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23

Path: ;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin

d. issue java from cmd, java command using promption appears

1 download all three
1.1 eclipse
use firefox and navigate to http://eclipse.org/downloads/, click "
Windows 32 Bit" for "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers", then follow guide to download eclipse IDE package. what I get is eclipse-jee-helios-SR2-win32.zip, whose version number is 3.6
1.2 tomcat
use firefox and navigate to http://tomcat.apache.org/download-60.cgi, click "32-bit Windows zip" to download it
1.3 sysdeo eclipse tomcat plugin
use firefox and navigate to http://www.eclipsetotale.com/tomcatPlugin.html#A3, click tomcatPluginV321.zip to download it. its version is up to eclipse version and tomcat version that can be seen from comment for the plugin

2 install all three
2.1 eclipse
extract eclipse zip package to local harddisk, I extracted it to D:\eclipse, then I can launch eclipse IDE from D:\eclipse\eclipse.exe
2.2 tomcat
a. extract tomcat zip package to local harddisk, I extracted it to D:\apache-tomcat-6.0.32
b. add a system variable TOMCAT_HOME with value of D:\apache-tomcat-6.0.32
c. startup tomcat to verify the installation: issue %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat from cmd, tomcat startup message pop up, logs should be without error, use firefox and navigate to http://localhost:8080/, tomcat homepage can viewed
d. edit D:\apache-tomcat-6.0.32\conf\tomcat-users.xml to access tomcat manager by adding following lines into <tomcat-users> section

  <role rolename="manager"/>
  <user username="tomcat" password="tomcat" roles="manager"/>

2.3 sysdeo eclipse tomcat plugin
a. extract plugin package to D:\eclipse\plugins
b. launching eclipse IDE, click Window-Preferences from menu, click Tomcat from leftside panel, select Version 6.x for version, select D:\apache-tomcat-6.0.32 as Tomcat home, select Server.xml as Context declaration mode, click OK
c. three tomcat icons should appear in toolbar (if there is no toolbar, click Window-Show Toolbar), click the three icons to verify if tomcat can be controlled here

Write a helloworld jsp

a. launching eclipse IDE, click File-New-Project, select Java-Tomcat_Project, give name as helloWorld

b. click File-New-Other, select Web-JSP file, give name as helloWorld.jsp

c. edit helloWorld.jsp

d. use firefox and navigate to http://localhost:8080/helloWorld/helloWorld.jsp, "hello jsp" appears
