Install mplayer
Mplayer is the most powerful player on linux system, it can play many kinds of files. It can be downloaded from www.mplayer.com freely. There are three packages you should download, they are: mplayer installation package, skin package, and decodes package.
Only mplayer installation package should be compiled, when configured, much parameters should be specified. I configed it like this:
./configure --prefix=/apps --enable-gui --enable-real --enable-win32 --enable-menu --with-codecsdir=/apps/lib/codecs --with-reallibdir=/apps/lib/codecs --with-win32libdir=/apps/lib/codecs --cc=gcc
--enable-gui means that graphic interface should be support;
--enable-real means that real format should be support;
--enable-win32 means Windows decode lib can be support;
--with* specifies some directories;
--cc is not necessary, but I like gcc than cc.
While making, a error message appears, I didn't understand it, but seems like that my CPU lacks a kind of register. Then I browsed config.mak which was included in Makefile, I found there was a OPTFLAGS, it contains some optional flags, "pentium2" appears in two items of it. There must be some options according to CPU, but my CPU may be different from common used ones, so I deleted these two items. Now no options, no error. Mplayer was built successfully.
Copy skin and decodes libs to directories specified by parameters of configure, then start the gnome desktop, and execute command gmplayer. Cool, I made it! Mplayer runned, many audio and video files can be played normally. But rmvb format is an exception, when open files of that type, an error "BadAlloc..." was reported. Soon later, I got the answer: start gmplayer with parameter -vo x11, then the rmvb files can be well played.
