本文介绍了Shrove Tuesday的历史背景及传统习俗。Shrove Tuesday即圣灰星期三前的最后一日，在这一天人们会制作煎饼来消耗掉家中即将禁食期间不能食用的食材如鸡蛋和黄油等。尽管现代社会已不再严格执行Lent期间的饮食限制，但Shrove Tuesday吃煎饼的习俗依旧被保留下来。

Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday, the day before the first day of Lent. Historically, the church prohibited people from eating any sort of rich food during Lent, which is the traditional fasting period leading up to Easter. To celebrate the last day before the fast and to use up rich ingredients such as fat and eggs which would be banned during Lent, it became traditional to cook pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.

These days we may not refrain from all rich food for Lent, but we still enjoy eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Clayponds will therefore be marking the event with pancakes in the village hall from 9pm on Tuesday - so come on down after dinner on Tuesday and join in this rather enjoyable old tradition.
