随着CentOS开发周期的结束，RockyLinux和AlmaLinux成为两个接续的开发版选项。RockyLinux是CentOS的分支，与RHEL保持下游关系，鼓励用户作为贡献者参与社区。AlmaLinux是RHEL8的1:1二进制兼容分支，由CloudLinuxOS创建者建立，是一个开源社区项目，旨在填补CentOS稳定的空缺。两者都提供上游地址和镜像方法供用户使用和贡献。
centos开发周期结束后，不再开发后续版本。目前有接续的开发版。
