Manually Removing Galaxy from a Unix Host

Manually Removing Galaxy from a Unix Host

In some instances it may be neccessary to remove an agent manually from a Unix host.  For instance if the Galaxy/Simpana structure becomes corrupted on the file system and the "cvpkgrm" process no longer works.

Resolution:

To remove a Galaxy/Simpana agent from a Unix host for re-install there are three objects that must be either renamed or removed from the Unix host.  This procedure covers renaming the objects as the process may then be reversed if needed.  This procedure also assumes that the client was installed using the default options offered from the install.  Prior to renaming these objects the Galaxy/Simpana daemons must be stopped on the server.

For CommVault (CV) Versions 6.1 & 7.0

This can be done by running "Galaxy stop" or by killing the Galaxy processes using a "kill -9" command.

For CV ver. 8.0 the command is “simpana stop”.

To prepare for a fresh install of of the Unix host:

1. Rename directory /etc/CommVaultRegistry to /etc/CommVaultRegistry.gone

2. Rename file /etc/Galaxy.pkg to /etc/Galaxy.pkg.gone (this file only exists for CV ver. 6.1)

3. Rename directory /opt/galaxy to /opt/galaxy.gone  ⇔ This may be different based on where the CommVault Software was installed.

If this is for CV ver. 8.0, the directory may be called /opt/simpana.

At this point a fresh install of the CommVault Software can be executed.

For a permanent removal of the agent there are additional files and directories that should be removed.  The ports could also be removed from the bottom of the /etc/services file (only for CV Ver. 6.1) if so desired.

A list of these files and directories are below:

For CV Vers. 6.1 & 7.0

1. /var/log/galaxy ⇔or where the logs were created on install.

2. /usr/bin/Galaxy

3. /usr/bin/GxCmd

4. /usr/bin/cvpkgrm

5. /usr/bin/cvpkgcheck

6. S99Galaxy

7. K99Galaxy

For CV Ver. 8.0:

1. /var/log/simpana ⇔ or where the logs were created on install.

2. /usr/bin/simpana

3. /usr/bin/cvpkgrm

4. /usr/bin/cvpkgcheck

5. S99Galaxy

6. K99Galaxy

For the Items listed above regarding S99Galaxy / K99Galaxy will be located wherever the "RC" scripts are located for the type of Unix/Linux that the CommVault Software is installed on.  For instance on Solaris this would be /etc/rc3.d/S99Galaxy or on HPUX /sbin/rc3.d/S99Galaxy or on Linux /etc/rc5.d/S99Galaxy
