Do you want to install Thunderbird 3 to your Linux computer? Here is a guide for you. Thunderbird is a free, open-source and cross-platform mail client for most operating systems including, but not limited to, Windows, Linux and Macintosh, which has been update to Thunderbird 3. Just read on this tutorial, follow several easy steps, and you will get Thunderbird 3 to your Linux without any troubles. Install Thunderbird 3 to your Linux
Step 1
. Download
Thunderbird 3
from the official site.
tar xfvj thunderbird-3.0.tar.bz2
xfcj means:
x = Extract
f = File mode
v = Verbose
j = The file is compressed, so pipe it through bzip2 to decompress it first
Step 3 . Copy the files to a more suitable place where you want to put it:
sudo mv ./thunderbird /opt/
Step 4 . The location of Thunderbird 2.0 to store your email is .../mozilla-thunderbird, and the location of Thunderbird 3 is .../.thunderbird. So I create a copy of .../mozilla-thunderbird folder and rename it to .thunderbird to prevent the loss of email hive.
Step 5 . If you use gnome, right-click on the top gnome panel and choose " Add to Panel " option. Enter the following detail to finish creating a launcher for our new Thunderbird install.
Step 6 . You can launch your Thunderbird 3 from your new launcher.
