Question:
Do you think companies should consider educational background or work experience more when hiring new employees? Why or why not?
Answer:
In my opinion, a person's work experience is far more important than educational background.
First of all, a person's education is not always the best indicator of their ability. We have seen so many successful people without a university degree. Also, I never did well on tests, but I feel that I have a very high aptitude for performing my job well. It is very hard to get a full understanding of someone's ability simply based on their grades in school. Additionally, practical experience plays a much more useful role in the work place than theoretical knowledge. If I have related work experience, not only do I know the ins and outs of the business, but also I am capable of working in a professional setting and as a part of a team. That is difficult to teach or learn in university.
For those reasons, I believe companies need to focus more on an applicants' work experience.
