The graphs illustrate how the popularity of three different types of electrical appliances changed and how much time a household spent on housework in a particular country from 1920 to 2019.

The washing machine, which used to be the most popular in 1920, with 40% of families owning it, still gained popularity before its figure reached 70% in 1960. the figure became the smallest afterwards, fluctuating between 70% and 60%.

The percentage of households with a vacuum cleaner, starting at 30%, overtook that for the washing machine in 1960(70%) and has soared to 100% by 2000. an upward pattern was also seen in the ownership of the refrigerator: few families bought a refrigerator at the beginning of this period, but after 1950 it had the largest coverage and its figure finally reached 100% in 1980.

It is clear that less and less time was spent on household chores. 50 hours were spent per household per week in 1920, after which the number decreased continuously to approximately 10 hours per week.

Overall, the popularity of the appliances mentioned all saw an increase, while thanks to this, people were able to spent less time doing housework.
